Cheslyn Hay Academy Science Fair 2023: Nurturing Sustainability and Innovation in the World of Science

14th July 2023

On 13th July 2023, Cheslyn Hay Academy hosted a vibrant Science Fair, combining the wonders of science with the principles of sustainability. More than 70 participants demonstrated their understanding of scientific concepts and showcased their creativity in creating unique models using recyclable materials.

Mrs. Gemma Gleeson, an Assistant Faculty Director of Science, was the creative mastermind behind this thought-provoking event. It was an extension of the Windsor Academy Trust's strategic plan 'Big Move Four', demonstrating the school's commitment to fostering a sustainable future.

Our students, primarily from years 7 and 8, made models of cells and atoms using recycled materials such as newspapers, magazines, cardboard, and clean yoghurt pots. It was an impressive demonstration of applying theoretical knowledge to practical, real-world scenarios.

"Seeing our students create such innovative and environmentally friendly projects reaffirms that we are instilling the right values," Mrs. Gleeson said. "They have shown remarkable creativity and scientific understanding, demonstrating how education can marry learning and environmental responsibility."

The event was judged by Mrs. Harper, Windsor Academy Trust Director of Sciences, Mrs. Smith, Faculty Director of Science, and Todd Jenkins from Harper Adams University. They provided invaluable feedback to our students and created a dynamic interactive atmosphere.

We also received some incredible feedback from a very pleased parent:

Hope you're well and having a well deserved rest now!
I just wanted to drop a note to say thank you and well done for such a great Science Fair. Its been so lovely to see what the students have been working on, and brilliant to see their level of engagement, interest and knowledge. We've all really enjoyed it -  needless to say Will is over the moon but his younger sister also loved it and it gave her a great opportunity to see science in action at Cheslyn Hay, doing all of the experiments numerous times!
Congratulations on a great event!
Have a lovely evening
