Students at Cheslyn Hay Academy in South Staffordshire Celebrate a Strong Set of GCSE Results

Students at Cheslyn Hay Academy are celebrating today after receiving their GCSE results. 

After much hard work studying and preparing, students at the school, which is part of Windsor Academy Trust, are collecting a set of strong GCSE results and getting ready to take their next steps in their educational journey.

The school's overall performance has continued to build from previous years with some of the highlights particularly being the increased number of students gaining a high pass in English and Maths. Overall 38% of students secured a strong pass of a grade 5 in both English and Maths. 

English saw 71% of students secure a Grade 4 or above, exceeding the national average of 59.7%, and over half achieving a Grade 5 compared to a national average of 44.1%. Success continued in Mathematics, where 45% of students gained a Grade 5+ surpassing the national rate of 40.9%. 

A major success this year has been the outstanding performance of our highest-achieving students, with 10% of overall grades at 7 or above and 39% at a strong pass of grade 5 or above. Subject performance was particularly strong in Art & Design, where 50% of students achieved a grade 7 or higher and 18% earned the top grade 9, vastly outperforming the national average of 5%. Exceptional results were also seen in Computer Science, 18% at grades 7–9 and 78% at grade 5+, Design & Technology 18% at grades 7–9 and Religious Studies, 14.3% at grades 8–9 and 10% at grade 9. Technical and vocational courses similarly excelled, led by Creative iMedia, where 46% of students achieved a Distinction. 

Cheslyn Hay Academy students are now looking forward to progressing onto their chosen further education institutions, with many remaining at the school’s Aspire Sixth Form to study for A Levels and vocational qualifications. 

While all students have done incredibly well, there are some standout individual achievements. These include:

  • Amy Cooper achieved 9 grades at 7 or above: 2 grade 9s in Art and Computer Science, a combined Science grade of 9-8, 3 grade 8s in Maths, Geography and French and 2 grade 7s in English Language and Literature

  • Lucy Henry achieved 9 grades at 7 or above: 3 grade 9s in English Language and Combined Science, 4 grade 8s in Art, Drama, Geography and Mathematics and 2 grade 7s in English Literature and French

  • Eddie Brereton  achieved 9 grades at grade 6 or above: 4 grade 9s in Computer Science, Mathematics and a 9-9 in Combined Science, 2 grade 8s in Design & Technology and English Language, 2 grade 7s in English Literature and Geography, and a grade 6 in French.  

Collecting GCSE results today, Maisie Cooper said “I am extremely happy with my results. I have had an amazing time at Cheslyn Hay, the teachers are very supportive and motivational, I am looking forward to starting my next chapter in Aspire Sixth.”

Oscar Ward added: “I’m incredibly pleased with my GCSE results, especially my grade 8 in maths. I plan on continuing my education here at Aspire Sixth to do A Levels in Maths, Physics & Economics.  I very much appreciate how I’ve been treated and supported by the teachers throughout my time at Cheslyn Hay Academy, especially Mr Cox. I look forward to continuing my education here.”
